Richard P. Winder, MD


Richard P. Winder, MD, is a native of Logan, Utah. He graduated as Valedictorian from Logan High School and Cum Laude from Brigham Young University. He went on to receive his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Winder completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During this time, he was also selected to receive additional training at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland and Nemours Children's Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Following his residency, Dr. Winder was invited to participate in a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, under the direction of the esteemed Dr. James R. Andrews. While there, he worked closely with other leading experts in the field of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine: Drs. Lyle Cain, Jeffrey Dugas and Benton Emblom. There he provided care to many professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational athletes and their families. Dr. Winder was specifically assigned as a team physician for Tuskegee and Auburn Universities football programs, Birmingham Barons baseball, a subsidiary of the Chicago White Sox organization, WWE Professional Wrestling Association, and the Alabama Ballet.
Throughout his clinical training, Dr. Winder has been involved in Orthopaedic research. He has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his findings at local, regional, and national meetings. He has contributed on a variety of topics including ACL injuries, partial knee replacements, multi-ligamentous knee injuries, shoulder injuries in baseball players, and knee injuries in football players.
Dr. Winder specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy with a focused interest in the minimally invasive treatment of hips, shoulders, knees, and elbows.
Dr. Winder is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also board-eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Winder enjoys traveling, participating in and attending sporting events, triathlons, and coaching his sons in football and baseball. Dr. Winder and his wife, Mauri, are expecting their fifth child this fall and are excited, as a family, to be joining the Las Vegas community.
