Our Doctors: Michael Miao, M.D.

Dr. Miao graduated from Harvard University and the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic training at the University of Pittsburgh and received advanced fellowship training in knee and shoulder arthroscopic and reconstructive techniques as well as in Sports Medicine.

He is board certified and subspecialty certified in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Western Orthopaedic Association (WOA), Nevada Orthopaedic Society, Nevada State Medical Association, and Clark County Medical Association.

Dr. Miao is on faculty at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and is part of the UNLV Sports Medical Team. His responsibilities include teaching the UNLV Sports Medicine Fellow, medical students and Family Medicine residents, as well as taking care of UNLV athletes. This continues his interest in teaching that started as an Orthopaedic consultant to a large family practice/sports medicine fellowship in California.

Specializing in Sports Medicine, advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures, and cartilage restoration/transplantation, Dr. Miao uses his personal experiences as a former National swimmer and Olympic Swimmer in the 23rd Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California to guide his patients on their road to recovery.

Dr. Miao is currently the Medical Director and Official Orthopaedic Surgeon for the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team and has been the Head Team Physician for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives football team through its first 3 seasons (2 Championships). He is one of the team physicians for USA Swimming and USA Water Polo and served as an intern team physician for the USOC (USA Women's Hockey). For several years, Dr. Miao has been asked to cover Las Vegas' PGA, LPGA, ATP tour, USA Rugby 7's, and WAC/WCC/PAC-12 events. He has also served as contact physician for a number of local high schools in our underserved neighborhoods.

Emphasizing a careful and thoughtful approach to medical decision making, Dr. Miao encourages his patients to be educated and active participants in their own medical care.
